What you can download from Douyin
A video post gives you the video and its sound. Photo posts usually cannot be read (see below).
| Type | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video | MP4 (H.264) | Without the Douyin watermark, in the resolution Douyin serves |
| Sound | MP3 or M4A | The sound used in the post, in the format Douyin stores it |
How to download a Douyin video
- In the Douyin app, open the video, tap the share icon, then 复制链接 (Copy link). On a computer, copy the address of the video page on douyin.com.
- Paste it into the box above and press Download. If you copied the whole share message with the Chinese text, paste it as it is: the link inside it is used.
- Pick the video or the sound.
- Save the file. Douyin files are single files, so they are ready right away.
Share links (v.douyin.com) and full douyin.com/video/ links both work.
Quality and formats
Douyin keeps a playback copy of each video without the watermark. That copy is the one you get, as an H.264 MP4. It is not re-encoded, so it plays on any phone, computer or video editor.
Each video comes as one file, in the resolution Douyin provides for it. There is no separate list of qualities to choose from.
The link is read by the OpenDown server, so you do not need a Douyin account to download.
Links that cannot be downloaded
- Private videos and videos from private accounts: strangers cannot see them.
- Deleted videos, and videos Douyin has blocked or is still reviewing: the link does not open a video.
- Videos limited by region or age: Douyin shows them only in some places or after an age check.
- Live streams, profiles and search pages: paste the link of one video.
- Photo posts: Douyin usually does not return them to OpenDown, so most of them fail.
Saving on iPhone and Android
- iPhone and iPad: Safari saves the file to the Downloads folder in the Files app. To add a video to Photos, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Video.
- Android: Chrome saves the file to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps show it there.
- Computer: the file goes to your browser's usual download folder.
Keep downloads for personal use, and ask the rights holder before you repost them.
Frequently asked questions
Does the video have the Douyin watermark?
No. The file you get is Douyin's own playback copy, which is stored without the watermark. Nothing is cropped or blurred to hide it.
What does a Douyin link look like?
The share button in the app copies a message with some Chinese text and a link that starts with https://v.douyin.com/. You can paste the whole message or only the link. Links such as https://www.douyin.com/video/ followed by a number work too.
Can I download Douyin photo posts?
Usually not. Douyin rarely returns photo posts to OpenDown, so the page shows an error instead of a list. Video posts work normally.
Is Douyin the same as TikTok?
Not quite. Douyin is the version of TikTok made for China. The two apps come from the same company, but they are separate and have different videos. For TikTok links, use the TikTok downloader.
Why does it say the video is unavailable?
The video is private, deleted, blocked, still under review, limited to some regions or behind an age check. OpenDown can only download videos that open without a Douyin account.
