How to download a Threads video
- In the Threads app, tap the share icon under the post, then Copy link. On the web, copy the address of the post page.
- Paste the link into the box above and press Download.
- Pick the video, photo or GIF you want. A carousel lists each item.
- Save the file. Files from Threads are ready right away.
Quality and formats
For each video, OpenDown saves the MP4 copy Threads uses for playback, with the sound inside, without re-encoding.
Photos come from the largest version Threads offers and are saved as JPG. GIFs stay GIF files.
Some posts also carry their sound as a separate track, for example music added to a photo, or the sound of a video inside a carousel. When they do, an M4A audio file appears in the list too.
Links that cannot be downloaded
- Posts from private profiles: only approved followers can see them.
- Deleted posts and posts restricted by their author: Threads no longer shows them to everyone.
- Login-only posts: Threads shows them only to logged-in users.
- Profile links: open one post and copy its link.
- Text-only posts: there is no media to save.
Threads sometimes limits requests for short share links. If that happens, open the post, copy its full address (it looks like threads.com/@name/post/...) and paste that instead.
Saving on iPhone and Android
- iPhone and iPad: Safari saves the file to the Downloads folder in the Files app. To add it to Photos, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Video or Save Image. M4A audio files stay in Files.
- Android: Chrome saves the file to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps show videos and photos there.
- Computer: the file goes to your browser's usual download folder.
- Inside the Threads app: if nothing saves, open this page in Safari or Chrome and try again.
Keep downloads for personal use, and ask the rights holder before you repost them.
Frequently asked questions
Do threads.net links still work?
Yes. Links from threads.net and threads.com are treated the same way.
Can I download a whole carousel?
Yes. Paste the post link once and every photo and video in the carousel is listed as its own file.
What if the post quotes another post?
When a post quotes or links to another post, OpenDown usually lists the media of that other post.
Why does it say the post is no longer available?
Threads reports that the post was deleted, made private or restricted by its author. OpenDown cannot reach a post in that state.
Can I download only the audio?
Only when Threads provides the sound as its own track, as with music added to a photo. Otherwise the sound is inside the MP4.
Are GIFs saved as GIF files?
Yes. A GIF in a Threads post is saved as a GIF file, not turned into a video.
