How to download a Vimeo video
- On Vimeo, copy the address of the video page, or tap Share and copy the link.
- Paste the link into the box above and press Download.
- Pick a resolution from the list.
- Save the MP4. Vimeo files are ready right away.
Quality and formats
Vimeo keeps finished MP4 files for many videos, with the picture and sound already together. OpenDown lists each one with its resolution and file size, and saves it as Vimeo serves it, without re-encoding.
Which resolutions appear depends on the video. If a size you see in the Vimeo player is not in the list, Vimeo does not offer it as a file and it cannot be saved here.
Some videos have no such files at all. In that case OpenDown shows an error instead of a list.
Links that cannot be downloaded
- Password-protected videos: only people with the password can watch them.
- Private videos: only the owner or invited people can see them.
- Videos for rent or sale: you have to pay on Vimeo to watch them.
- Live events: OpenDown does not support them.
- Channel and showcase links: open the video on its own page and copy that address.
Saving on iPhone and Android
- iPhone and iPad: Safari saves the file to the Downloads folder in the Files app. To add a video to Photos, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Video.
- Android: Chrome saves the file to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps show it there.
- Computer: the file goes to your browser's usual download folder.
- Large files: long videos at high resolution make large files, so a Wi-Fi connection helps on a phone.
Keep downloads for personal use, and ask the rights holder before you repost them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download unlisted Vimeo videos?
Yes, with the full unlisted link. It has a code after the video number, for example vimeo.com/123456789/abc123def4 or vimeo.com/123456789?h=abc123def4, and that code must stay in the link.
Why is there no 4K option?
Only the MP4 files Vimeo provides are listed. If 4K is not among them for a video, it cannot be saved here.
Does the file have sound?
Yes. Vimeo's MP4 files carry the picture and the sound together.
Why does it say the video is unavailable?
The video is private, password-protected, removed or still being processed by Vimeo, or Vimeo offers no MP4 file for it.
Can I download a Vimeo video embedded on another website?
Yes. Paste the player link from the embed, which looks like player.vimeo.com/video/123456789, or the video's own page on vimeo.com. For an unlisted video, keep the h= code at the end of the player link.
