Download Reddit videos with sound, GIFs and images
Reddit keeps the picture and the sound of a video apart. Paste a post link and OpenDown joins them into one MP4 at the resolution you pick.

What you can download from Reddit
Paste the link of a Reddit post. Links from reddit.com, old.reddit.com and m.reddit.com work, and so do redd.it short links and share links with /s/ in them.
| Type | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video | MP4 | Each resolution Reddit offers, with sound joined in |
| Video without sound | MP4 | Saved directly, nothing to join |
| GIF | MP4 | GIF posts are saved as short MP4 videos |
| Audio only | M4A | The sound track of a video |
| Image post | JPG, PNG | Full-size image, in the format Reddit stores it |
| Gallery | JPG, PNG or GIF | Every image in the post, each as its own file |
How to download a Reddit video
- In the Reddit app, tap Share under the post, then Copy link. On the web, copy the address of the post page.
- Paste the link into the box above and press Download.
- Pick the file you want: a video resolution, the audio, the GIF or the image. In a gallery, each image is listed on its own.
- Save the file. Videos with sound take a few seconds while the picture and sound are joined, so keep the page open.
Quality and formats
Reddit streams its videos in several resolutions and keeps the sound in a separate track. That is why a video saved straight from Reddit often has no sound.
When you pick a resolution, OpenDown copies the picture and the sound into one MP4 on its server, without re-encoding. It takes a few seconds and shows progress while it runs. The file size shown already includes the sound.
Videos without a sound track are saved directly as silent MP4 files. GIF posts are saved as MP4. Images, including each image of a gallery, keep the format Reddit stores them in, usually JPG or PNG.
Links that cannot be downloaded
- Removed posts: the author, a moderator or Reddit took them down.
- Posts in private communities: only members can see them.
- Direct file links from v.redd.it, i.redd.it or preview.redd.it: paste the link of the post instead.
- Posts that only link to another site: there is no Reddit media to save. If the link goes to YouTube, use the YouTube downloader with that link.
Saving on iPhone and Android
- iPhone and iPad: Safari saves the file to the Downloads folder in the Files app. To add it to Photos, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Video or Save Image.
- Android: Chrome saves the file to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps show it there.
- Computer: the file goes to your browser's usual download folder.
- Inside the Reddit app: if nothing saves, open this page in Safari or Chrome and try again.
Keep downloads for personal use, and ask the rights holder before you repost them.
Frequently asked questions
Why do Reddit videos saved elsewhere have no sound?
Reddit stores the sound apart from the picture, so saving only the video stream gives a silent file. OpenDown puts the sound track back into the MP4.
Do Reddit share links work?
Yes. Links with /s/ from the Share button are opened first to find the post, then its files are listed. Short redd.it links work too.
What about crossposts?
A crosspost points to an original post, and OpenDown downloads the media from that original.
Can I download only the audio?
Yes. When a video has sound, an M4A audio file is listed next to the video resolutions.
Can I download a gallery?
Yes. Paste the link of the gallery post and every image is listed as its own file, at full size and in the format Reddit stores it in: JPG, PNG or GIF.
